R. Edward "Edd" Houck is a Democratic member of the Senate of Virginia, representing the 17th District since 1984.

Houck currently serves on the Finance, Transportation, Rules, General Laws, and Education and Health Committees. He is the Chairman of the Freedom of Information Advisory Council and a member of the Joint Commission on Health Care and the Commission on Youth. Additionally, Senator Houck is a member of the following Joint Subcommittees: Conflicts of Interests and Lobbyist Disclosure Filings, Public Funding of Higher Education in Virginia, Public Records Act, and Assistance to Localities for K-12 School Infrastructure.

In 2005, Houck was appointed to serve on the Budget Committee of Conference. This committee meets with its counterparts from the House of Delegates to reconcile differences between the House and Senate budgets and recommend a final budget bill to be sent to each House for approval.

Senator Houck also serves as a member of START (the Statewide Transportation Analysis and Recommendation Taskforce). Earlier this year, he was named as a Senate member of the Joint Commission on Transportation Accountability.

Houck was born in Smyth County, Virginia and graduated from Marion High School. He received his Bachelor Degree from Concord College, now Concord University, and a Master's in Education from the University of Virginia.
