Patrick Joseph "Pat" Murphy (born August 24, 1959) is the Iowa State Representative from the 28th District and is presently the Speaker of the Iowa House. He previously served as Minority Leader from 2003-07. Murphy is a Democrat and has served in the Iowa House since winning a special election in 1989. Murphy currently serves on several committees in the Iowa House: the Administration and Rules committee and the Labor committee. His prior political experience includes serving on the Birth Defects Advisory Committee since 1995, and on the Dubuque Cable Commission in 1981-1983.
