Kilpauk is a small commercial township located in Chennai, the capital city of the state of Tamil Nadu, India. The distance from Chennai's city center to Kilpauk is about 6 km. The region is situated off the Ponamallee High Road in the west. Adjacent suburbs of Kilpauk include Chetpet, Egmore, Anna Nagar and Purasawalkam.

The nearest railway station for Kilpauk is the one at Chetpet. This railway station lies to the south of Kilpauk and not more than a kilometre away. The Chennai Airport is about 10 km from Kilpauk.

This place was cantonment area for British troops before India's independence.

Enterprises dealing with the manufacturing of packaging materials, wood carvings, chemical suppliers, cement exporters and suppliers, have their bases in the locality. Besides being a commercial hub, the region also supports the local population. The place provides some of the best residential apartments in the city. The tree covered avenues and low pollution levels compared to other parts of the city, make Kilpauk a preferred destination.

The area around is also marked by a number of medical care units. One of the premier medical colleges in Tamil Nadu, the Kilpauk Medical College & Hospital is located here. The Kilpauk Mental Hospital is also located here. Others include Gremaltes Leprosy Centre, Murali Lakshmi Krishna Hospital, Vira Reddy Hospital, Meenam Hospital, K.S.Hospital, Padma Hospital, Rigid Hospital, Veekays pet care clinic.

Kilpauk is also known for it's theatres which include Sangam Cinemas, Ega Theatre and Abirami Mega Mall. Sathyam Cinemas has also started construction of its 8 screen multiplex here. Mummy Daddy stores, Show off, Spencers have their stores here.

Kilpauk is known for its schools which includes Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Bain School, Bhavans Rajaji Vidyashram, Sindhi Model,Rukmani Vidyalaya,Kola Saraswathi, Seetha Kingston to name a few.

Kilpauk is also home to many popular eat-outs like Cafe Coffee Day and Fruit Shop on Greams Road. They are a popular hangout for teenagers.
