Trivia

* The Strughold Mining Facility is actually the B.C. Museum of Mining, in Britannia Beach, British Columbia, Canada.
* The Mining Facility is named for Dr. Hubertus Strughold, a real-life German scientist who was employed by the U.S. after World War II. The fictional Victor Klemper in this episode is based on Strughold, who was accused of conducting similar experiments on humans.
* At one point, a combination based on the first five digits of Napier's constant is used, and Mulder incorrectly states "27828" (it should be 27182).
* Scully utters the line 'I just knew', perhaps a nod to the first season's Eve.
