Kawai, Iwate

Kawai (川井村; -mura) is a village located in Shimohei District, Iwate, Japan.

As of 2003, the village has an estimated population of 3,469 and a density of 6.16 persons per km². The total area is 563.07 km².

A planned merger of municipalities will be implemented around March 31, 2010; the city of Miyako and Kawai will merge. [http://www.kokudo.or.jp/new/cities/sub/tohoku/03.htm]
