Samsung Engineering Co., Ltd. (SECL, Hangul: 삼성엔지니어링 Hanja: 三星엔지니어링) is the first and largest domestic engineering firm, was established in 1970 and has its headquarters based in Seoul, South Korea. As an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company, it provides a full range of engineering services including feasibility studies, design, procurement, construction, facility operation and management. The Company has substantial business outside of Korea with a presence in the Middle East, ,Thailand, Indonesia, Taiwan, India, Vietnam, China, Mexico, Hungary and Slovakia, and its projects include the construction of petrochemical and oil refinery plants and gas production facilities. In the industrial plant construction sector, the Company participates in various projects on a turnkey basis, ranging from power plants to electronics, automobile, chemicals and food production plants. In addition, Samsung Engineering constructs water treatment systems for semiconductor and power plants, sewage treatment facilities and other projects.

Divisions

Samsung Engineering is comprised of the following four divisions:
*Hydrocarbon Plant Division: building EPC turnkey oil refineries, natural gas processing, petrochemical plants, energy plants, LNG, FPSO, chemicals, fertilizers, etc.
*Environmental & Infrastructure Division: building waste incineration plants, water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants and industrial water treatment facilities, train depot facilities, welfare facilities, etc.
*Industrial Plant Division: building electronics and semiconductor manufacturing plants, food & beverage plants, railroads, shipyards and other manufacturing and large scale maintenance facilities
*Business Support Division: HR, IT, Investor Relations, Public Relations, Media, Finance, Legal Counsel, Research Laboratory, Global Environment Research Center, Q-HSE (Quality, Health, Safety, Environment), Overseas Contact Offices, Strategic Planning & Innovation

Samsung Engineering Saudi Arabia (SESA) - In 1999 Samsung Engineering established an integrated regional office in Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia to serve as a global EPC hub. It provides the needed support for the 9 mega projects in Saudi Arabia, and has assisted in advance or on time delivery of the projects.

Samsung Engineering India (SEI) - In May 2006, Samsung Engineering established a global EPC hub in New Delhi, India and serves as a central role in the execution of international projects in collaboration with the headquarters in Korea. The International Procurement Office (IPO) for global equipment and material sourcing is currently operated in conjunction with SEI. In addition, SEI's Research and Development Center is an important asset to this regional office.

History

1970s

In the 1970s, the Korean economy needed to become independent of foreign technology and stand on its own two feet. The need to ensure a steady supply of various raw materials became a national project for the Korean government, and in part of the mission to develop the nation's heavy chemical industry, Korea Engineering, the first professional engineering firm in Korea, was founded.

1980s

Determined to invest in the emerging heavy chemical industry, the Samsung Group acquired Korea Engineering, and strengthened its collaboration to fortify the company's competitiveness. Subsequently, Samsung Engineering made rapid progress to broaden its service offerings and solidified its stance as a growing EPC contractor.

1990s

During the '90s, having changed its name to Samsung Engineering (1991), the company rapidly progressed and garnered contract awards/sales of 1 trillion KRW. More advanced technologically, Samsung Engineering built petrochemical, industrial, and environmental refineries/plants on a turnkey basis and emerged as a leading EPC contractor.

Corporate Social Responsibilities

In 2007, Samsung Engineering constructed the "Kumpooh School" (School of Hope) in Quang, Ngai, Vietnam. The school officially opened in April 2008, and is providing 300 children under 7 with new opportunities to learn and grow.

Samsung Engineering members are engaged in a "1.1.1 community service" program in which they provide community service to a new location every month. Currently, around 40 service teams are regularly visiting and providing services in orphanages, social welfare facilities and homes for the disabled and elderly.
