*The largest number of living mayors occurred from December 4, 1871 to December 28, 1872, between the inauguration of Mayor Alvord and the death of former Mayor Van Ness, when 12 current or former mayors were alive.

*There have been two people who were the only living Mayor of San Francisco. They include John White Geary from his inauguration to Stephen Randall Harris' inauguration (1850-1851), and Angelo Rossi, from the death of James Rolph, Jr. to the inauguration of Roger Lapham (1934-1944).
