The University of Alicante (in Valencian: "Universitat d'Alacant", in _es. Universidad de Alicante; also known by the acronym UA) was started in 1979. There are today approximately 30,000 students studying there. The UA also offers preparatory Spanish Language courses for foreign students throughout the year and during the summer.
