William Street is a suburban distributor and one of two major cross-streets in Perth, Western Australia.Commencing in western Mount Lawley it also crosses the Perth to Fremantle railway at the Horseshoe Bridge. It is a one-way street from Brisbane Street to its terminus at The Esplanade, which takes it through the Northbridge cafe and nightclub district as well as Perth's central business district. A ramp which took William Street traffic from The Esplanade onto the southbound Kwinana Freeway was closed in 2004 to facilitate the construction of the Esplanade railway station.

As of 6 July 2008, the section of William Street between Mounts Bay Road/The Esplanade and Wellington Street is a two-way road for the first time in more than a decade. One lane is dedicated to north-bound traffic, while the other lanes remain open for south-bound. This change is intended to alleviate traffic congestion on Barrack Street.

Transport

William Street is serviced by buses running through Northbridge and the CBD. North of Horseshoe Bridge routes 16, 21, 22, 41, 42, 43, 44, 46, 48, 55, 60, 66, 67, 68, 69, 401 and the Blue CAT serve Northbridge, where most either terminate or deviate at Wellington Street Bus Station. South of Horseshoe Bridge, William Street is serviced by 16, 21, 22, 23, 30, 31, 34, 41, 42, 43, 44, 46, 48, 55, 60, 66, 67, 68, 69, 78, 102, 107, 881, 940, Blue CAT and Red CAT. Most of these services deviate via Esplanade Busport before going to their intended destination, except for the Red CAT. William Street is used for buses travelling from Wellington Street Bus Station to Esplanade Busport because it is the most direct route. William Street has 3 general bus stops, 1 Red CAT bus stop and 1 Blue CAT bus stop. A second Blue CAT stop has been moved from William Street to opposite Esplanade Train Station.
