"Rhytida oconnori"is a species of medium-sized, air-breathing land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusc in the family Rhytididae.

Distribution

This species is endemic to the South Island of New Zealand. It is found at Canaan, near the headwaters of the Wainui River, in the Pikikiruna Range, at the north end of the South Island.

Habitat

This snail lives in forest litter.

hell description

The shell is rather large, thin, largely chitinous, with rapidly accelerating whorls, resulting in a very large elongate-oval aperture. The surface is finely malleated by a laterally compressed network of anastomosing radial ridges, crossed by exceedingly fine spiral striations. The shell colour is pale brown over the early whorls, with the body whorl being dark olive-brown.

The shell diameter is up to 33 mm, and the height is up to 19 mm.
