The Boston Museum Project

The Boston Museum Project is a planned history museum for the city of Boston, Massachusetts in the mold of other city's history museums such as the Chicago History Museum and the Museum of London. It will occupy one of the parcels of land created by the Big Dig. In October 2005 the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority designated the project as the official developer for parcel 12 of the new Rose Kennedy Greenway, adjacent to Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market.cite news

The planned building will be designed by Moshe Safdie and Associates and is estimated to cost 89 million dollars.cite news

The Safdie Proposal has been superseded by a new plan calling for a different design due to Parcel 12 site conditions. The need to build over two highway ramps would add such additional cost that the Boston Museum Project is now seeking permission to construct a smaller alternate project on Parcel 9 "The Haymarket". Parcel 12 would be used as the site of a sculptural bridge leading pedestrian traffic across to be able to enter the museum or walk on toward North Station.
