Ian Mendes

Ian Mendes

Ian Mendes (born December 28, 1976 in Mississauga, Ontario) is a sports broadcaster for Rogers Sportsnet East, a Canadian sports news channel covering Eastern Ontario, Quebec and the Atlantic provinces. Mendes has been in charge of Sportsnet's Ottawa Senators desk since 2004.

After graduating from Carleton University's Journalism Program in 1998, he took a job at the Ottawa Lynx baseball club in public relations, and wound up working on two occasions as Lenny the Lynx. [http://magazine.carleton.ca/2002_fall/808.htm] After a brief stint with the Ottawa Senators Public Relations Department he joined Sportsnet in 2001. In 2006 he made a controversial blog entry on Sportsnet.ca in which he called Ottawa "the worst sports city in Canada".
