Karaca is a shield volcano located in eastern Turkey. [ [http://www.volcano.si.edu/world/volcano.cfm?vnum=0103-011 Global Volcanism Program] ] According to "Der Spiegel" [ [http://www.spiegel.de/ Der Spiegel] ] of either 6 March or 3 June 2006 , the Max Planck Institute for Breeding Research in Cologne [ [http://www.mpiz-koeln.mpg.de/ Max Planck Institute for Breeding Research] ] has discovered that the genetically common ancestor of 68 contemporary types of cereal still grows as a wild plant on the slopes of Mount Karaca (Karacadag).
