In October 2003
Krispy Kreme Doughnuts opened their first store location in theUnited Kingdom . The store situated in the world famousHarrods department store inLondon has since become one of 35 stores in the UK, with the latest opening scheduled forLeeds in February 2009. 3 Stores have been opened inManchester and are currently the furthest away from theGreater London area until the Leeds location is opened. Other stores outside Greater London includeBirmingham (InsideSelfridges ),Oxford ,Portsmouth (2 locations),Southampton ,Milton Keynes ,Gatwick Airport ,Stansted Airport andLuton Airport . Krispy Kreme's 2003 UK arrival coincides with the 2002 departure of its major competitorDunkin' Donuts from the UK, Dunkin' Donuts met with much less success than Krispy Kremes and only operated 7 stores, 4 in London, 2 inDublin and 1 inGlasgow which were all closed down due to low sales. In October 2003 Krispy Kreme UK opened up their first store in the
Harrods department store. Since then they have gone on to open another 34 stores, the most recent being in Manchester on the 14th December 2007 and the next scheduled for Leeds in June 2008. In the UK, Krispy Kreme have opened the majority of there stores inside the M25 (Greater London ) or in Central London. Their furthest store from London being located inManchester . Other stores outside Greater London include those atOxford ,Milton Keynes andPortsmouth . Krispy Kreme also have fresh cabinets (ISB's) located in manyTesco stores.In Summer 2007 the fresh store at Brooklands near Weybridge became the first ever store in the UK to close, discounting the temporary store in the Bluewater food court. The reason for the closure was due to the expansion of the Tesco Extra store consuming the space previously occupied by Krispy Kreme.
Krispy Kreme currently separate their stores into three categories.

Factory Stores are entirely self sufficient, they produce all 15 doughnut varieties as well as the newly introduced desert collection.

Hot Tunnels are a format of Krispy Kreme doughnuts that have the ability to add warm glaze to original glazed doughnuts that are produced elsewhere. These stores have all varieties brought in from factory stores, and are located in the following places:

* The Oracle, Reading.Fresh Locations
Fresh Locations rely entirely on factory stores. They have doughnuts brought in fresh everyday. These are usually based in smaller locations with a high footfall. The Varieties
Krispy Kreme Doughnuts offer 15 varieties of doughnuts in the UK plus the occasional feature doughnut. Original glazed doughnuts cost £1.10, ringed dougnuts such as chocolate iced glazed cost £1.20 with filled doughnuts such as Chocolate iced custard filled cost £1.35.

*Chocolate Iced with SprinklesFollowing the success of the Easter feature doughnut entitled the 'Chocolate Dreamcake' (a slight variation of previous feature doughnut the 'Kreme Dream', it was decided that the doughnut would become permanent along with two new doughnuts, 'Apple Crumble' and 'Lemon Merengue' collectively these are known as the 'Desert Collection', these two later became discontinued.
