American R&B recording artist Kelly Rowland began her career in 1997 with one of America's best selling bands, Destiny's Child, who to date have logged around fifty million record sales worldwide.[1] In 2002 Rowland began her solo discography, which includes three studio albums; two EP; three compilation albums; twenty-eight singles, nine of which as a featured artist and one charity single; and one DVD album. To date she has sold more than 82 million records worldwide, between albums and solo/featured singles as a Destiny's Child member and solo artist, and she has won five Grammy awards, three with the group (two for "Say My Name" and one for "Survivor", and two as a featured artist ("Dilemma" with Nelly, and "When Love Takes Over" with David Guetta)[2].

Rowland began her solo career in 2000 with the Avant's duet single "Separated", and in 2002 with the release of her debut album Simply Deep, which contained influences of alternative-R&B and rock music.[3][4] It included her joint worldwide number-one single "Dilemma" with rapper Nelly, which was certified three-times platinum in Australia.[5] Other singles released from the album include "Stole", "Can't Nobody" and "Train on a Track". "Stole" peaked in the top thirty of the US Billboard Hot 100 and top five in most other regions, including in Australia and the United Kingdom where it reached number two. "Can't Nobody" and "Train on a Track" also respectively reached the top five and top twenty in the UK, but failed to impact in other regions. The album was a commercial success; more than two million copies were sold worldwide.[6] It was subsequently certified platinum in the United Kingdom,[7] and gold in Australia,[8] Canada,[9] and the United States.[10]

In 2005, Destiny's Child released their final album before disbanding the following year.[11] Rowland prepared her next studio album initially under the title My Story. However this was revamped and finally released in 2007 as Ms. Kelly.[12] It featured the moderately successful lead single, "Like This" (with Eve), and the international hit single "Work". A third single "Ghetto", with Snoop Dogg, was released but did not chart. The re-releases of the album also included another moderately successful single, "Daylight", with Travis McCoy. Despite selling over 2 million copies worldwide, the album was considerably less successful than its predecessor.[13] During this time Rowland also featured Trina's 2005 single, "Here We Go", which peaked at top-twenty in the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and the United States.

In 2009, Columbia Records ended their contract with Rowland due to the lack of commercial success with Ms. Kelly.[1][14] Since then, Rowland worked on a number of collaborations with European singers; most notably French singer Nâdiya, Italian singer Tiziano Ferro, and French DJ David Guetta. Rowland collaborated with Guetta for several songs on his One Love album. This included Rowland's feature on the worldwide dance hit "When Love Takes Over". Following the success of the single, she announced that her next studio album would be more up-tempo with dance and Europop influences.[15]

She has since signed to Universal Motown Records and is planning to release her third album Here I Am in July 2011.[16][17] The album has already spawned the US Dance number-one hit "Commander", which saw Guetta and Rowland reunite as producer and singer. She also released "Everywhere You Go" (with Rhythm of Africa) for the 2010 FIFA World Cup,[18] and recorded the singles "Invincible", with UK grime artist Tinie Tempah, and "What a Feeling", with Italian DJ Alex Gaudino.[19][20] In September 2010, a press release revealed that Rowland has recorded a version of "Wonderful Christmastime" for the album, Now That's What I Call Christmas! 4.[21] July 26, 2011, brought the release of Rowland's third studio album, Here I Am, which debuted on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart at number one and the Billboard 200 at number three. With a number-one dance single ("Commander") already indicating its popularity, the album also includes a number-one R&B single "Motivation" (with Lil Wayne), with two more singles lined up before the end of 2011. A revised version of the album featuring more dance songs will be released internationally in November 2011.
