Smith & Wesson Centennial

Smith & Wesson Centennial

S&W Centennial is a J-frame (small) revolver design with a fully enclosed hammer, which makes it a Double Action Only (DAO) firearm. Smith & Wesson manufactures "Centennial" revolvers in .38 Special +P (Models 40, 442 and 642), and .357 Magnum (Models 340 and 640).
The original Model 640 (before the 640-1 variant) was chambered for .38 Special. (Note that .357 Magnum revolvers can also shoot .38 Special ammunition.)

The original Centennial model, dating to 1952, was so named for the company's 100th anniversary.

Now discontinued, the model 940 was a stainless steel Centennial model chambered for 9x19mm caliber and available in 2-inch and 3-inch barrel lengths.
