Sir John Briscoe, 1st Baronet

Sir John James Briscoe, 1st Baronet JP, DL (8 December 1835 – 1 May 1919) was a British baronet.

The son of John Briscoe and Elizabeth Burrowes, he was County Alderman for Cambridgeshire. He was further Deputy Lieutenant and Justice of Peace for Cambridgeshire. In 1888, he became High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire and on 12 July 1910, he was made a Baronet, of Bourn in the County of Cambridge.

Family

On 11 June 1863, he married Ellen Charlton, daughter of Alfred Charlton. They had seven children:

*Elizabeth Charlton Briscoe (d. 1955)
*Sir Alfred Leigh Briscoe, 2nd Baronet (1870–1921)
*Sir John Charlton Briscoe, 3rd Baronet (1874–1960)
*Robert Charlton Briscoe (1877–1942)
*Hugh Kynaston Briscoe (1879–1956), married Noel Worrall, daughter of John Edward Worrall on 4 November 1919
