Thames Centre, Ontario

The municipality of Thames Centre, Ontario, Canada was formed on January 1, 2001 when the townships of West Nissouri and North Dorchester were amalgamated; despite its official name, it technically remains a township.

Thames Centre includes the Degree Confluence of 43N 81W.

Communities

Dorchester is the residential and commercial core of the township. Every year, there are many events held in Dorchester. There is the Dorchester Fair, the Dorchester Car Show, the Dave Clarke Memorial Run, Friday Night Tradition and many more. Also, there are many places where celebrations can be held, such as anniversary parties and Stag and Does. These include the Dorchester Arena and the Optimist Hall. Also, the Scouts organizations in Canada and the USA hold a "brotherhood camp" called the DIBC (Dorchester International Brotherhood Camporee), which attracts as many as 4000 scouts and girl guides/scouts from Canada and the US. Smaller communities in the township include: Avon, Belton, Cherry Grove, Crampton, Cobble Hill, Derwent, Devizes, Evelyn, Fanshawe Lake, Friendly Corners, Gladstone, Harrietsville, Kelly Station, Mossley, Nilestown, Oliver, Salmonville, Silvermoon, Thorndale, Three Bridges, and Wellburn.

Famous People in Dorchester:Chris Robinson who was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the third round of the 2005 MLB First Year Player Draft. Shane and Kyle Cook, both world renowned fiddlers hail from Dorchester. Blair Middleton, a physics graduate who studied at the University of Lethbridge and the University of Windsor, is a teacher of physics at Lord Dorchester Secondary School, as is Mr. Toms, whom can recite Pi to the 100th digit.
