- Los Reyunos Dam
The Los Reyunos Dam is a
dam on theDiamante River , in centralMendoza Province ,Argentina . It is located 35 km from the city of San Rafael. Its wall, built of stone and compacted clay to minimize execution and cost, is 134 m high. Its reservoir has an area of 7.34 km².The dam is used to generate
hydroelectricity . This is done in apower station located below the level of the reservoir. About 2 km downstream there is a smaller compensation dam called El Tigre. During the hours of decreased power demand, water is pumped from the reservoir of El Tigre back into Los Reyunos, to stabilize the water level. The lake is employed to raise
Salmonidae and silverside, allowing for sportsfishing . On the western side there lies the Los Reyunos Fishing and Nautical Club, along with private summer residences and a hotel. The club serves as a base for activities in the lake (windsurf ,canoeing , etc.) and in the surrounding mountains (such ashiking ).References
