List of Anglican bishops of Sydney

This is a list of Anglican bishops and archbishops of the Diocese of Sydney and its predecessor the Diocese of Australia.

From 1788 to 1836 the Colony of New South Wales was part of the Diocese of Calcutta. In 1836, the first Bishop of Australia was enthroned and the Diocese of Australia formed. Between 1845 and 1849 various parts of the Diocese of Australia were spun off into their own dioceses and remainder became the Diocese of Sydney. The Diocese of Sydney has been led by an Archbishop since 1897.

The Archbishop of Sydney is currently assisted by five regional or suffragan bishops.

Bishops of the Western Region of the Diocese of Sydney

The region Western Sydney is based in Parramatta. The bishop was formerly known as the Bishop in Parramatta, The Pro-cathedral St John’s Parramatta is the site of the oldest continual Christian worship in Australia. This was the first 'region' within Sydney Diocese.

Bishops of the Southern Region of the Diocese of Sydney

From the edge of the Pacific Ocean in the east to Strathfield and Concord in the west, from the southern shore of Sydney Harbour across to the northern parts of Botany Bay, the South Sydney Region covers the oldest, most diverse and still changing portion of Sydney. The Bishop is often referred to as the Bishop of South Sydney.

Bishops of the Georges River Region of the Diocese of Sydney

The Georges River region covers the south-western areas of Sydney stretching from Marrickville to Liverpool and taking in the areas of Bankstown and Fairfield. The Bishop is sometimes referred to as the Bishop of Liverpool.

Bishops of the Wollongong Region of the Diocese of Sydney

The Wollongong Region covers the Sutherland Shire, Wollongong, Kiama, Shoalhaven, Southern Highlands, Camden and Campbelltown.
