Ousiotype

Ousiotype [cite journal|author=Cannings, C., Thompson, E.A. & Skolnick, M.H.| year=1978| title=Probability functions on complex pedigrees.| journal=Am. J. Hum. Genet.| volume=10| pages=26–61] is a term defined in segregation analysis. The phenotype scrutinized by segration analysis may be due to common (C) or rare (R) factors, which might be environmental or genetic. Individuals whose phenotype is due to common factors (C), rare (R) or both (CR) define the ousiotypes.

Cannings defines a set of five rules, the second and third are collectively called the "penetrance rules", the final two collectively specify the "mode of transmission". The set of five rules specify the "model". The ousiotype of an individual in a genetic model is the individual's genotype.
