Lithuanian Democratic Party

Lithuanian Democratic Party - was Lithuanian democratic party that gave birth to the whole range of political Parties in Lithuania.

It emerged in October 17, 1902 at count Zubov manor in Dabikinė. 1906 it accepted program prepared by Kazys Grinius, Jonas Vileišis, Povilas Višinskis, Juozas Bortkevičius and Jurgis Šaulys

Program was to seek autonomy status for Lithuania in Imperial Russia in ethnic Lithuanian lands, all the power was to be given to parochial committees. Program supported education and cooperation, tried to encourage people to participate in public lifeand. New program by A. Rimka was accepted in 1914,

Party soon split into multiple parties, and in May 20 1920 party was dissolved.

* 1902: Liberal intellectuals and dissident social democrats formed the Lithuanian Democratic Party ( _lt. Lietuvių Demokratų Partija).
* 1905: The LDP sponsored the forming of the Lithuanian Peasants Union
* 1914: The LDP is renamed into Democratic Party of Lithuania ( _lt. Lietuvos Demokratų Partija)
* 1917: A left wing faction formed the Lithuanian Socialist Popular Democratic Party and a moderate faction formed the Democratic National Freedom League.
* 1920: The party is dissolved
