"A Spaniard in the Works" is a story out of John Lennon's book of the same name. It is about Jesus El Pifco, a foreigner working for the Laird of McAnus, a "canny old tin whom [sic] have a castle in the highlands."
Summary
Jesus El Pifco was an immigrant from Barcelover [sic] who, upon arriving in Scotland, got a job working for the Laird of McAnus as a coachman. Jesus' quarters were in the horses' stables, and Jesus grooms them and cleans them for a living. He loves Patrick "Spastic" Sporran, who dislikes that he spends more time with the horses than with her. She also doesn't like it when he calls her "His Little Spastic", which Jesus explains by telling her that he is a foreigner, and doesn't understand what "spastic" means. Patrick begs for forgiveness, and Jesus accepts. They were married shortly after. McAnus gave Patrick an ointment to cure her crabs (Which she got from the Laird of McAnus). Afterwards, Jesus' mother, Mrs. El Pifco calls, and says she is coming to town. they bring the news to the Laird of McAnus, who promptly fires Jesus and Patrick.
