University of the Philippines Official Seal

University of the Philippines Official Seal

The University of the Philippines Official Seal has long been debated. Several versions of the logo are in use within the University system.

To prevent the multiplicity of logos, the Philippine Intellectual Property Office has approved in the year 2004 the official logo of the University, just in time for the Centennial Celebration in 2008.

The logo has two versions: black and white, and colored. Nonetheless, both depict the same images connected to the University's long history.

The bird (eagle according to the UP Brand Book 2007 by the UP System Information Office) in the official seal holds a shield that carries different symbols for agriculture, engineering, and science, the three fields where the University has been known for. Until today, UP takes pride in these three areas of knowledge as it is acknowledged as one of the Centers of Excellence in the Philippines by the Commission on Higher Education.

The colors in the colored version of the seal are forest green and maroon, the official colors of the University.
