Caunton

Caunton is a village in the Newark and Sherwood district of Nottinghamshire on the A616, six miles north-west of Newark-on-Trent in the NG23 postcode.

St. Andrew's Church is the village church. The village pubs are " [http://www.theploughcaunton.co.uk The Plough] " and the " [http://www.diningpubs.co.uk/pub_details.asp?id=9 Caunton Beck] ", both on "Main Street".

Caunton Mill, also known as Sharp's Mill, was a brick tower windmill with an ogee cap, built before 1825. It was out of use in the 1930's. The mill survives, though without its cap, machinery and gallery. The height of the tower is 43 feet [Shaw, T. (1995). "Windmills of Nottinghamshire". Page 11. HMS Caunton, named after the village, was a Ton class minesweeper from December 18th 1952 until 1970.
