Founded in 1932, Advance Auto Parts (NYSE|AAP), headquartered in Roanoke, Virginia, is the second-largest retailer of automotive replacement parts and accessories in the United States. AAP had 2007 sales of approx. $4.8B via more than 3,200 stores and with the work of some 45,000 employees in 40 states.

In 2005, Advance Auto Parts purchased Autopart International, Inc. which operates 125 stores in Northeastern United States.

Advance employs the most ASE-certified Team Members in the industry. The ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification is a highly regarded professional designation in the automotive aftermarket industry.

Advance's organizational development and training programs have been nationally recognized by being named to Training Magazine's Top 100 list. Advance premiered on the list in 2003 at No. 54 and has remained on the list since that time.

Advance's Information Technology department has been nationally recognized by being named to the Information Week 500 list of top ranking business users of technology. Advance debuted on the list in 2003 at No. 448 and has remained on the list since that time.

Advance has received numerous recognitions for charitable contributions. Most notably, the company has been nationally recognized for its fundraising for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). The company has donated more than $14 million since 1994 to the foundation.
