Bomireddi Narasimha Reddy

Bommireddi Narasimha Reddy (16 November 1908, Y.Kothapalli, Cuddapah district, Madras Province - November 1977) was an Indian film director and an early figure in the Telugu cinema industry, also known as Tollywood. Many of his earlier films like "Vande Mataram", "Devatha" had Chittor V. Nagaiah as lead. His 1951 film "Malliswari" starring N T Rama Rao and Bhanumathi is considered a timeless classic.

Background

B.N. Reddy became a chartered accountant before turning to film-making. His brother Konda Reddy worked as photographer for his films like "Malleswari".

Achievements

He appeared on stage with giants like Ballari Raghava. He was also known as a poet.

Awards

B.N. Reddy won Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1974 becoming second person to win this award from South India.
