The Living Church

The Living Church

"The Living Church" is a weekly magazine based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin providing commentary and news information on the Episcopal Church in the United States. In continuous publication since 1878, it has generally been identified with the Anglo-Catholic wing of Anglicanism, and has been cited by national newspapers as a representative of that party. However, in 1912, leading Anglo-Catholics felt that it was not as closely allied to their cause as the British magazine, "The Church Review". [Cite news

quote=Through the Duke of Newcastle ... this wing of the church has arranged to publish an American edition of The Church Review, which will serve as an organ for this party. No ecclesiastical periodical now published in this country exactly represents the views of those who believe in this ultra-ritualism. The organ which comes closest to doing so is The Living Church, published in Milwaukee.

The mission statement of the Living Church Foundation, the non-profit organization that publishes "The Living Church" alongside "The Episcopal Musician's Handbook" and "Illuminations", is “the promotion and support of orthodox, catholic Anglicanism within the life of the Episcopal Church.” The current editor of "The Living Church" is David Kalvelage. The periodical is a member of the Associated Church Press, a religious periodical group. Some of the magazine's content has been made available online since the late twentieth century.
