Isthmian League Cup 2004-05

Isthmian League Cup 2004-05

The Isthmian League Cup 2004-05 was the 31st staging of the Isthmian League's football league cup competition, the Isthmian League Cup. The competition was also known as the "Bryco League Cup" or just "Bryco Cup" due to a sponsorship deal. This was the last season the tournament would be sponsored by Bryco.

The competition began on October 26 2004, with 18 First Round matches taking place. For the Isthmian League's Premier Division clubs, the tournament began in the Third Round in January 2005. All 60 member clubs of the Isthmian League competed. Ties are all single-legged and take place at the stadium of the club drawn first. If scores are level at the end of a match, extra-time and penalties (if necessary) are used to determine a winner. However, at the Semi-Final stage, matches are played over two legs, the first leg being at the stadium of the team drawn first.

All matches at every stage of the competition are scheduled by the league to be played on Tuesday evenings, so as not to clash with already scheduled Saturday league matches; however this season, the Third Round matches took place on a Monday: January 3. The final of the 2004-05 Isthmian League Cup was held at Staines Town FC and the winners were Slough Town, who were victorious over Hampton & Richmond Borough by three goals to one, the final was played in front of 725 spectators.

Hampton & Richmond Borough went into the match in 5th place in the Premier Division, and Slough Town in 13th place, so it can be said that the underdogs were victorious.

Other factors which may have played a part in the result include Hampton & Richmond Borough having played three matches in less than a week due to a fixture backlog. The goalscorers for Slough Town were Ian Hodges (2), and Josias Carbon. Dudley Gardner scored for Hampton & Richmond Borough.

The only red card of the match came for Hampton & Richmond Borough's number Three, Dean Wells. The referee for this match was Martin Darlow. There was also a yellow card for Slough Town's Josias Carbon. [http://www.rebelsonline.co.uk/index.asp?stid=9000331]
