Discovery Channel Australia is part of a six channel network on cable and satellite television in Australia. This network includes three locally programmed channels and three foreign programmed channels.

Discovery Channel

The Australian version of the Discovery Channel is operated by XYZnetworks [ [http://xyz.com.au/xyznetworks/Channels.aspx Channels :: XYZ Networks] ] , who also own the exclusive distribution rights for the channel. Animal Planet launched locally in Australia exclusively on Optus Television in October 1999. The channel is dedicated to programming that highlights the relationship between humans and animals. It has since expand to multiple carriers.
