Graeme Catto

Sir Graeme Catto, FRCP, FMedSci, FRSE is a Scottish doctor who is currently President of the General Medical Council. He is also currently Professor in Medicine and Therapeutics at the University of Aberdeen and an honorary Consultant nephrologist at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Academia

He graduated in Medicine in 1969 from the University of Aberdeen, after which he won a Harkness Fellowship to study at Harvard University. He has a special interest in Immunology and Nephrology.

Professor Catto was Dean of Medicine at the University of Aberdeen before moving in 2000 to become Vice-Principal of King's College London, Dean of the Guy's, King's and St Thomas' Medical and Dental Schools and Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of London. He was knighted in 2002 for services to medicine and medical education. In 2005 he returned to the University of Aberdeen to spearhead the fundraising for the Matthew Hay Centre.
