Brampton, Norfolk

Brampton, Norfolk

Brampton is a small village and parish in the county of Norfolk, England, in the Bure Valley, east of Aylsham.

It is an intermediate halt on the Bure Valley Railway.

Its church, St Peter, is one of 124 existing round-tower churches in Norfolk.

Although now one of the smallest communities in Norfolk it has a rich history. In particular it was the site of a Roman manufacturing centre from where goods were exported by boat along the river Bure. In excavations in the 1960s evidence of a bath house was found along with many kilns.

The village sign reflects the Roman past and depicts a double-headed fish copied from a Roman brooch found some years ago that can now be seen in the Norwich museum. The village sign depicts the name Bramtuna to reflect its history.

The village has a website www.bramptonnorfolk.org.uk
