A great educational and social reformer, Sir Syed emerged on the scene in the Sub-Continent towards the middle of the 19th century. At a critical juncture of history, he came up with more education as the centerpiece of a framework of hope and action for the Muslims of the area. A monument to Sir Syed’s approach making mission was the well-known Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College at Aligarh (AMUOBA) that later become the Muslim University there. A significant achievement in this field has been the establishment of Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET). SSUET came into being on 8 October 1993, and its Charter formalities were finally completed by an Act passed by the Sindh Assembly on 17 September 1995.
