The Dr Hadwen Trust is the UK’s leading medical research charity that funds and promotes exclusively non-animal techniques to replace animal experiments. Established in 1970(Registered charity number 261096), the work undertaken by the Dr Hadwen Trust benefits humans with the development of more relevant and reliable science whilst also benefiting laboratory animals.

The portfolio of work funded by the Dr Hadwen Trust is high-quality, peer-reviewed and innovative research, combining strict ethical principles and scientific excellence. Projects receiving funding from the Dr Hadwen Trust range from epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, breast and skin cancer, meningitis, asthma, diabetes and drug testing, to arthritis, Parkinson’s disease, lung injury, whooping cough, vaccine testing, dentistry, heart disease, tropical illness, fetal development, brain tumours and AIDS.

The Dr Hadwen Trust is internationally recognised as a leading authority on replacing animal experiments and actively promotes the concept and practice of non-animal research through its policy work, publications, science community outreach and the media. Active memberships of Eurogroup for Animals, the International Council for Animal Protection in OECD Programmes (ICAPO) and Focus on Alternatives enable the Dr Hadwen Trust to transmit its message globally and effectively. The Dr Hadwen Trust is the Chair of Focus on Alternatives, a coalition of expert non-governmental organisations which fund or promote methods that replace animal experiments.
