Queen Margaret's School is an independent day and boarding school for girls aged 11-18 in Escrick Park near York. Queen Margaret's was originally established at Scarborough in 1901 by the Woodard Foundation. It subsequently moved to Pitlochry during World War 1 before moving back to Scarborough. During the Second World War the school relocated to Castle Howard. Whilst at Castle Howard a fire destroyed most of the building. THe girls were moved to other local boarding schools, including Queen Ethelburga's. After World War II, it was moved to its present day location in Escrick Park. The school was named after Queen Margaret the Queen of Scotland from "c".1070-1093. There are approximately 365 students in the school 90% of whom are boarders.
