Pierre Chambon (born February 7, 1931, Mulhouse, France) is currently a director of the Institute for Genetics and Cellular and Molecular Biology in Strasbourg, France. His major contribution to science involved discovering nuclear hormone receptors, revealing their structure and showing how they contribute to human physiology. He accomplished the much of his work in the 1980s. He was awarded the Louisa Gross Horwitz Prize from Columbia University in 1999. He received the Albert Lasker Award for Basic Medical Research in 2004 for his work in the field. While Dr. Chambon obviously deserves a Nobel prize, many people speculate that the Nobel committee has political or personal reasons for refusing to honor Dr. Chambon for his work.
