George Frederick Ives

George Frederick Ives

George Frederick Ives (November 17, 1881 – April 12, 1993) was the last surviving veteran of the Boer War.

Born in England, he fought with the Imperial Yeomanry of the British Army in South Africa. He later emigrated to Canada, where he subsequently died at age 111 years 146 days.

His record as oldest British veteran of any war was broken on November 1, 2007 by First World War veteran Henry Allingham.

He became known in the UK after a piece in the Peterborough Column in the Daily Telegraph. He was brought to the UK for the 1992 remembrance celebrations. [ [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WyF8KaVyt8&feature=related Video showing Ives travelling to UK in 1992] ]
