Jonathan Wilson (musician)

Jonathan Wilson is an American musician and producer who was born in Spindale, North Carolina in 1977. He founded the band Muscadine with Benji Hughes in 1995. Muscadine released their debut album for Sire Records in 1998, called "the Ballad of Hope Nichols". Wilson and Hughes were scouted and then signed by legendary music maverick Seymour Stein, who also brought the world the Talking Heads, Madonna, and The Ramones. Joey Ramone was an early champion of Muscadine, attending their shows and supporting the music. The debut album from the band was produced and played almost entirely by Wilson, who used the pseudonym "?" as his production name.

Wilson now lives in the fabled Laurel Canyon section of Los Angeles. He was scheduled to release a solo album titled, "Frankie Ray" in 2007. The record was held up in red tape, and while it received glowing reviews and has been much heralded, it was never officially released. He also is putting finishing touches on a new record, to be released in 2008, featuring many special guests including Barry Goldberg, Chris Robinson, Gary Louris, Andy Cabic, Otto Hauser, Josh Grange, Gary Mallaber, Z Berg, Adam McDougall, Johnathan Rice, among others.

He was most recently been recording with Elvis Costello and the Imposters on the 2008 album "Momofuku" for Lost Highway with his Laurel Canyon pals Jenny Lewis, Farmer Dave Scher and Johnathan Rice. He was heavily involved in the recording of Gary Louris' 2007 solo album "Vagabonds" for Rykodisc Records. He has also recorded in 2007 with Johnathan Rice, for Reprise Records, Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes and Phil Lesh from the Grateful Dead.In 2008, Wilson has recorded with Jenny Lewis for her second solo effort for Warner Brothers Records.Wilson has recently started hosting Wednesday night private jam sessions at his compound in Laurel Canyon that have gotten national and international attention for their unique "Canyon Folk" type feel and have involved Andy Cabic, Wilco, Gary Louris and members of the Jayhawks, members of the Cars, The Black Crowes, members of the Electric Flag, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Jacob Dylan, members of Van Morrison, Bruce Springsteen and Steve Miller's band, members of Pearl Jam, Entrance, Jenny Lewis, Johnathan Rice, David Rawlings, among many others.
