Vector atom model

It is simply a model of atom. It can be said that it as the extension of Rutherford-Bohr-Sommerfield atom model. J. J. Thomson and Rutherford were the first men to propose the structure of an atom.

J. J. Thomson's plum pudding model

J.J.Thomson was the discoverer of electron. From his experiments he found that atom are indivisible and made an attempt to propose the structure of the atom as "a positively charged sphere having radius about 10-10 in which negatively charged electrons are embedded such that the repulsion between the individual can be balanced by the force of attration towards its centre of the positively charged sphere". His two important points are: *Number of electrons are directly proportional to the atomic number
*Electron are arranged in the sphere like plum pudding.

Drawbacks

*He couldn't explain the stability of an atom and the demands of the Electromagnetic theory
*He couldn't explain the Rutherford's Gold foil experiment
*He couldn't explain the fine spectra.

For the discovery of electron he got Nobel prize in 1906
