Consolidated rental car facility

A consolidated rental car facility (CRCF) is a complex that hosts numerous rental car agencies. They are often found at American airports.

History

A CRCF exists at Newark Liberty International Airport[1], Dallas-Ft. Worth International Airport, and Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport has operated a CRCF since late 1998[citation needed].

December 1998 saw the opening of the CRCF at San Francisco International Airport[citation needed] with an expansion in June 2008[2].

A CRCF at Albuquerque International Sunport opened in March 2001.[3]

A CRCF at Baltimore Washington International Airport opened in 2003.[4]

In August 2003, the CRCF opened at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas.[5]

In January 2005, the CRCF opened at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida. At that time, it was the largest CRCF in the United States.[6]

Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix, Arizona saw the opening of its CRCF in January 2006.[7]

As of February 2007, there are conceptual plans to build a CRCF at Charlotte/Douglas International Airport.[8]

A CRCF opened at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada in April 2007[9].

A CRCF opened at Kansas City International Airport on May 2, 2007.[10]

A CRCF at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport opened in July 2007[11].

A CRCF opened at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Atlanta on December 8, 2009[citation needed].

A CRCF will open at Miami International Airport in the spring of 2010 as the first major structure of the Miami Intermodal Center[12].

A CRCF at San Jose International Airport opened on June 30, 2010[13]

Nashville International Airport opened its CRCF on November 16, 2011[14][15]

Memphis International Airport will its CRCF in spring 2012[16][17].

A CRCF at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport will open in spring 2012[18][19][20].

A CRCF at New Orleans Louis Armstrong International Airport will open in December 2012[21][22][23].

Controversy

In Phoenix, the CRCF resulted in higher car-rental fees as the costs of building the new facility were passed on to the consumers. As a result, some travelers upon arriving in Phoenix take a cab to a local rental-car office.[citation needed]
