AMK Hub (Abbreviation for Ang Mo Kio Hub; Simplified Chinese: 宏茂桥城) is a suburban shopping mall located in Ang Mo Kio, within the North-East Region of Singapore. It has the air-conditioned Ang Mo Kio Bus Interchange, the third bus interchange in Singapore to be fully air-conditioned, which is conveniently linked to Ang Mo Kio MRT Station via an underpass.

Singapore's National Trade Union Congress's various cooperatives like NTUC FairPrice, NTUC Income, NTUC Foodfare, NTUC Healthcare, NTUC Childcare and NTUC Eldercare, and NTUC Club, will all come under one roof in AMK Hub to provide a wide range of affordable products and services for residents and visitors of all ages, bringing them greater convenience, and cost and time savings.

AMK Hub is part of the redevelopment plan to rejuvenate the town centre of Ang Mo Kio, to make it more hip and vibrant. Seng Han Thong is the Member of Parliament for this constituency (Yio Chu Kang Single Member Constituency).

The shopping mall has 48,250 square metres of gross floor area and convert|350000|sqft|m2 of retail space. Among the other neighbourhood malls around in Singapore, AMK Hub's size is bigger than Sun Plaza and Heartland Mall. Malls like Causeway Point and Jurong Point Shopping Centre are still bigger compared to AMK Hub.

History

AMK Hub was built on the site of the old bus interchange and retail area of Ang Mo Kio that existed until 2002. A temporary bus interchange was later built 500 metres away from its original site to allow the construction of the shopping mall to be carried forth. On 28 April 2007, the bus interchange was moved back into AMK Hub.

low Construction Process

The work on the site at that time was draggy, right after the demolition of the retail area and bus interchange, the contractor went bust and the site was left empty. Only after two years of stagnation, work on the site was finally restored, and its newly-assigned contractor, Lum Chang Building, worked on a tight schedule to get it done by end 2006.

Underpass Cut-Off

During the closure of former Ang Mo Kio Bus Interchange, at the site of present AMK Hub, the underpass gradually closed. It was closed for 4 years since 2003 and has opened following the opening of AMK Hub.

"Name-the-Mall Competition"

This competition was launched by the developers in March 2005 as its developers decided to involve the residents in suggesting a suitable name for the retail mall, since the mall will become an integral part of Ang Mo Kio residents' lives. In the end, the name "AMK Hub" which is the short-form of Ang Mo Kio Hub, was chosen.
