Treaty of Berlin (1889)

Treaty of Berlin (1889)

The Treaty of Berlin was signed on June 14, 1889 between representatives of the United States, the British Empire, and the German Empire. Based on the terms of the treaty, all signatories recognized the independence of Samoa. Moreover, Samoa was guaranteed autonomy under the control of its own king. However, the king would be advised by consuls from the United States, Great Britain, and Germany. Ultimately, the treaty was replaced by the Treaty of Berlin (1899).
