Gallon Drunk are an English band formed in London in 1988.

Biography

Their sound is characterised by what has been called 'swamp rock' and is noted for its dark subject matter. The lead vocalist is James Johnston, who is also a member of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, he has played and toured with the Bad Seeds since 1993's "Let Love In" album and contributed organ (a trademark element of the Gallon Drunk sound) to the "Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus" album and tour (2004). The band's popularity and visible profile arguably peaked in 1992/1993 with the release of their second album "From The Heart of Town", which saw the band play enormous venues in the US, such as the Hollywood Bowl and Madison Square Gardens in New York, as a guest of Morrissey. The band share a variety of influences, from punk to jazz and the novels of Derek Raymond (especially "I Was Dora Suarez"). The band continue to record and tour, the latest release being "The Rotten Mile" album on Fred (Label).
