Tristar and Red Sector Incorporated

TRSI is an acronym for "Tristar and Red Sector, Incorporated". Founded by a supplier from Germany who went under the pseudonym Irata [http://noname.c64.org/csdb/scener/?id=4380] , TRSI began in 1990 as a cooperative Commodore 64 demo coding and cracking group. The alliance between Tristar and Red Sector, Inc. was formed after different group members met up at "KewL Party" in Denmark.

Red Sector became widely known in Amiga demo scene by releasing "Red Sector Megademo" in 1989. The demo was created by a section called "TCC design", a number of people from the Commodore 64 group "The Clumsy Creepers (TCC)". Later it became one of the most remembered Amiga demos. They released also a program for the amiga called Red Sector Demomaker, allowing any amiga user who wasn't a coder to do its own demo.

TRSI naturally migrated from the C64 release platform to the Amiga and IBM-PC, then branching off into the console gaming scene. In the mid 1990s they created an independent record label, "TRSI Records".

Not all members from Tristar and Red Sector took part in the cooperative movement that became TRSI. For example, some of the original Tristar members never officially recognized this merger and continue to work solely and exclusively under the "Tristar" label. Members who operated solely under the Tristar-only name use the abbreviation name 'TRS', not to be confused with the TRSI acronym.

History

TRSI was born June 29 1990, when Pilka and TCM decided to join forces on the Red Sector and The Silents Summer Conference 1990. In 1992, TRSI spun off a separate demo organization called Masque, responsible for the "Wicked Sensation" demo. By 1993, Masque had become tired of being merely the demo subsidiary of TRSI and so they split apart, taking all the "legal" (non-warez) members with them. This dealt a harsh blow to TRSI, but members like Warhead and TSM stuck with TRSI and helped to rebuild the group. At The Party 93, most of the Polish section teamed up - with XTD and Norby at the helm. In 1994, TRSI released several noteworthy demos such as "Cubic Dream", "Artifice" and "Viktoria".

German musician Virgill joined Complex according to Propaganda #4, but Virgill later made music for the TRSI demo "Twin Peaks" [12/96] .

* 1989 (late) - 1990 (early) - Irata met Hard Core of IBM-PC group TDT on a THG BBS. Together they soon went on to found TDT/TRSI (COOP).

* 1990 - German sysop The Seeker ('HOLY TOWER') decided to leave the group near the end of the year due to personal problems. Germans The Master and TCM (Martin, trade, new 08-11/90) were also kicked off the group late this year. German musician Jester joined from Proton in October, but moved on to Sanity the following month, without having produced anything for the group.

* December 1992 - Swedish musician Emax joined, and immediately contributed tunes for TRSI cracktros and demos.

* August 1994 - 2Fast left to form Avantgarde in the middle of August.

* 1995 - Three main organizers now, Control, Warhead and Uyanik! German graphician Navy (ex BASF, 12/93) was kicked early in the year, for unknown reasons. German musician Blackthorne (93) joined Essence around the middle of 1995; his joining was announced in their mag ROM #5 [95] . Nah Kolor was originally formed in the middle of 1995 by the Polish section of TRSI - Dreamer (ex Surprise! Productions, 12/94), Norby (new 12/93), Bald Horse, Lazur (ex TPDL), Elis (code, 94), and QBA - to serve as their demosection, like Surprise! Productions and Masque had in the past. However, the plans had not been correctly organised with the leaders of TRSI, and at The Party 5, Nah Kolor was given the choice of being real TRSI members or leaving in favour of this new group. The result was that Norby and Bald Horse decided to stay in TRSI, and that the rest continued as Nah Kolor. The remainder of the Polish section were dismissed, and were no longer official members; Python (swap, early 95), Reset (swap, early 95), Trash Head (swap, early 95) and XTD (music, new 12/93-12/94). Trash Head and XTD later joined Mystic. German graphic artist Fiver2 (ex Acrid, old handle Fiver, 12/93-95) joined Artwork in 1995, after the release of his slideshow "Honeycomb" [95] for TRSI.

* 1996 - Graphician Scar joined Session late 1996.

* 1997 - The Finnish group Mellow Chips joined as a subgroup, to serve as the TRSI demomachinery.

* 1998 - At The Gathering in April, the Mellow Chips win the demo competition with "Rise".
