Swarcliffe

Swarcliffe is a district of east Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It is 4 miles (7 km) east of Leeds City Centre and lies in the LS14 Leeds postcode area.

It is in East Leeds, and is situated between Seacroft, Whinmoor, Manston, and Cross Gates. The district of Stanks has been incorporated into Swarcliffe. "Manston Towers" and "Swarcliffe Towers" (two blocks of flats on upper right of photo) were demolished in the 1990s, being replaced with an old people’s home. The area is being enhanced via the Swarcliffe Public Private Partnership Scheme (PFI). Leeds City Council and other private sector companies such as Mowlem.

Public Houses

The Squinting Cat is located on Swarcliffe Avenue. Local People often refer to the Pub as "The Cat", however recent months it has been referred to has "Catalocos". This is due to the Pub's Disco, Karaoke and Casalocos nights, which atract large amounts of Young People. This effectively has turned the pub into a Nightclub.

Also on Swarcliffe Avenue, The Staging Post can be found. Local people refer to the Pub as "The Post". In the summer on 2007, the Pub was turned in a Live theatre. When London theatre company Lighting Ensemble put on the production of "The MayDay". The play starred professional actors and many local people from the community.

The Whinmoor is found on Stanks Lane South.

Swarciffe Working Men's Club is located on Swarcliffe Avenue. Used by many members of the community young and old, referred to has "The Club" it is very popular. With regular singers and other acts on week nights and Bingo each evening it atracts regular large amounts of customers. The club has three rooms, the concert room, which hosts many different acts throughout the year. The room can also be hired out for wedding's, birthdays and other special occasions. The Concert room is also used for charity nights. The lounge is the place for a relaxation, sit back and enjoy some great chat. And the games room, where all major sports events are shown. The room also has 3 fully sized snooker tabes, with competitions held regularly .

The Swarcliffe Parade is situated on Swarcliffe Drive. The parade consists of "Bubbly's" offlicence, the bakery, FoodKing superstores, Tote Bookmakers and Tung Ying Chinese.
