Urban districts of Germany

This is a list of urban districts in Germany. Germany is divided into 429 districts (not to be confused with the larger Regierungsbezirk); these consist of 313 rural districts ("Landkreise", see List of German rural districts) and 116 urban districts ("Kreisfreie Städte" / "Stadtkreise") – cities which constitute a district in their own right.A similar concept is the "Statutarstadt" in Austria. The concept is comparable to the independent city in the English-speaking world.
