Hadfield is a small residential town within the Borough of High Peak in
Derbyshire, England. The town is on the west side of the Peak District, and is a residential suburb of Glossopwith most local amenities and services being based in Glossop town centre.
The town Hadfield has a railway station on the electrified line to Glossop and Manchester Piccadilly, and is just off the
A628 road, linking Manchester with Barnsleyand Sheffield. The railway, known as the Woodhead Line, used to run through to Penistone and Sheffield via the Woodhead Tunnelbut passenger services were withdrawn in 1970. Freight trains ran until 1981, after which Hadfield became the terminus of the line.
Hadfield is within close proximity of the
Greater Manchestercounty boundary, and some services are provided with this in mind. Though lying within Derbyshire and the East Midlands, some of Hadfield's transport facilities are managed by the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive, whilst Tameside and Glossop Acute Services, based in Tameside, Greater Manchester, is the NHS Trustwhich operates in the area.
Hadfield is popular with walkers especially during the summer months and the
Longdendale Trailwhich runs along the Longdendale valley to Woodhead Tunnelstarts in Hadfield and runs along the trackbed of the former Woodhead line.
