His London office was known as "The Eton of architects' offices" [A. Stuart Gray, "Edwardian Architecture, A Biographical Dictionary" (1985), ISBN 0 7156 2141 6, p.186.] . His pupils included Herbert Baker, Guy Dawber, John Bradshaw Gass and Edwin Lutyens. George was the architect of the Golders Green Crematorium.

He designed houses for the Cadogan Estate in Chelsea and Kensington with Harold Peto in the 1870s and a number of country houses with, former pupil Alfred Yeats.
