Mary Allin Travers (born
9 November 1936 , Louisville,Kentucky ) is a member of the folk groupPeter, Paul and Mary , along withPeter Yarrow and Noel "Paul" Stookey. Together, they formed one of the most successful folk-singing groups of the 1960s.Travers is a graduate of the
Little Red School House . She lived inGreenwich Village , New York, as ahigh school student.The group Peter, Paul and Mary launched in 1961 and broke up in 1970, after which Travers pursued a solo career, recording five
album s on her own. The group reformed in 1978 and have since toured extensively and issued many new albums. Travers was married to Barry Feinstein. They are divorced and have two grown daughters.The group was inducted into the
Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1999.Health problems

7 December 2004 Travers disclosed that she was receiving chemotherapy for a rare form ofleukemia , but expected to make a full recovery. In April 2005 she underwent abone marrow transplant. 9 December 2005 , Peter, Paul and Mary performed live with the New York Choral Society atCarnegie Hall , the first performance since Travers' illness.In July 2006 she received criticism on the Internet when, a year after her life-saving bone marrow transplant, she expressed surprise in the New York Post that the donor was a Republican, saying 'Well, hell, I guess it's about time the Republicans did something nice for me.' Recently the trio had to cancel several dates of their summer 2007 tour, as Mary took longer than expected to recover from back surgery and later had to undergo a second surgery, further postponing the tour. The postponements continue, with a Morristown, NJ, date rescheduled from May 2 to Nov 2 2008.
