Saul Ewing LLP is a Philadelphia-based law firm. In addition to their main headquarters (located in the heart of the business district in Center City, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,) Saul Ewing has seven Mid-Atlantic regional offices in Baltimore, MD, Chesterbrook, PA, Harrisburg, PA, Newark, NJ, Princeton, NJ, Washington, DC, and Wilmington, DE.

History

Saul Ewing's history goes back to 1863. An attorney and art collector by the name of John G. Johnson argued 168 cases before the United States Supreme Court. He practiced law up until his death in April 1917. After his death, Johnson’s law practice was taken over by his salaried associates, who formed Pritchard, Saul, Bayard & Evans, which maintained offices at 1835-43 Land Title Building in Philadelphia. In March 1921 the firm was dissolved and a split of attorneys occurred, leading to the foundation of today’s Saul Ewing. Saul Ewing recently merged with a Washington, DC based firm Shmeltzer, Aptaker, & Shepard, P.C. The new Washington, DC office will be located at the historic Watergate building. The merger puts the headcount of Saul Ewing attorneys at approximately 300. [http://www.saul.com/common/pressroom/pdf_944.pdf]
